The silence between them certainly wasn't awkward, but he did wish he had something to say to her. Maybe I shouldn't have done that... It's been weird since I have... No, she's ok right? That shouldn't have made that much difference... He dazed out in his thoughts, causing him to drop his goblet when he tried to take a drink.

Hearing the sound of his goblet hitting a solid surface, Kaitlin turned to look over at him. "Alright then Xavier?" she asked in a concerned tone. She wasn't so much worried that he wasn't feeling well...but maybe he was a bit preoccupied with his thoughts. If it was something she could help him with, Katie was more than eager to assist. They were, after all, friends.

"Huh?" He shook his head then looked down at the goblet on the floor. "Sorry, I was thinking about something else.. I'm ok." He shook his head again, then picked up the chalice, wondering again to himself. What does this mean for me? Katie? Victorie? Why aren't things simple? They should be... Maybe they are? I mean...

Katie looked at him questioningly and asked, "Anything you care to share? Maybe I can help you with whatever it was that had you so distracted." He would have had to be pretty distracted or lost in thought to drop his cup. At least, that's what she figured. Kaitlin gave him a reassuring pat on the back and added, "Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll work out...or you'll get through it. You're a pretty smart bloke."

"Yeah, it'll work out I guess..." He shrugged his shoulders, and gave her a small smile. Continuing though, he blushed just a small bit. "I wish you could help... but this is something I'll have to figure out on my own" He sighed, then closed his eyes for a second and turned away. "I just don't know Katie.."

Feeling a bit bad that she couldn't be of more help, Kaitlin took another bite of her sandwich and looked off toward the Slytherin table. Though she really did have the utmost confidence that he could figure out whatever it was, she really did wish that there was more she could do than simply offering reassuring words. "Yeah...I'm sure you'll get through it," she repeated softly before lifting the cup of juice to her lips and taking a drink.

"Thanks.." He put his hand on her shoulder, and smiled at her. "Thanks Katie, it means a lot. I'm sure that I will get through it." He was mesmerized in her eyes for a moment, but was able to shake himself out of it.

"No worries Hunter," she replied with a nod, "I'm sure you will too." Finishing off her lunch, she washed it down with the remainder of her juice and then sat quietly. There was a bit of bickering at the Slytherin table but she didn't know any of the students involved in the scuffle. Even if she had, it didn't really matter much. It would have just been more to hear about in class.

Pulling his hand back, he took another bite of his sandwich. Finishing his food, he looked back to her. "I need some air... I'll catch up with you later?" He needed some time to make his decision, because either way, he was going all out. "Maybe I'll know by then..." Mumbling to himself, he hoped she didn't hear him.

"Alright," she said, nodding again. Kaitlin wondered why he was so eager to get away but she wasn't going to argue with him over it. If she couldn't help him then there wasn't much of a point in trying to. She got up from her seat and added, "Well, I have to catch up on a little studying...so yeah, I guess I'll see you later or whatever." She forced a quick smile and then hurried off toward the towers so that she could go up to the Gryffindor girls' dorm. Only once she was in the sixth year girls' dorm, she shut the door and fell back onto her bed. Lifting a book from its resting place on her nightstand, she opened it and started to read the chapter.

He watched her run out, sighing to himself about the whole thing. Jeez.. I really didn't handle that well... I just don't know what I'm thinking... how I'm feeling... I... I don't know...
