Mallory Winchester ran up the stairs, trying to keep from getting caught on a moving one. She was sad, as usual when coming to Hogwarts, because she and her sister where in different houses. When this happened Mal always went up to the Room of Requirement and waited to see if her beloved twin would come. If Ann Marie, her twin, didn't come, Mal would take out her two way mirror. Mars had the other so no matter what, they could talk every night or day. Some might call her crazy, but not being able to see her sister totally killed Mal. Reaching the wall where she knew the room would appear, Mal shook the thoughts of her sister away and consentrated. Closing her eyes and lowering her head she thought, I need a place where no one but Mars can get in. Something that resembles home. Opening her eyes, she looked up and saw the door. Looking back and forth down the hall she quietly went and opened the door. Stepping inside she waited, hoping that Mars would come.
After waiting for ten minutes, Mal was already jittery. If any Muggle had seen her, they'd have said she needed a quick trip to the nut house. But all Mal needed was her sister. If she doesn't come soon, I'll look at the mirror and see if maybe she's just sleeping, Mal thought. Glancing at the clock she saw that it was 11:15pm. Sighing, the brunette turned her head toward the large fireplace and stared into the flames.

Ann Marie Winchester walked up the stairs relaxed and calmly humming a small tune. She was going to meet her sister in the Room of Requirement and she was excited about that. She had missed her sister but in the heat of seeing her Gryffindor friends again she completely forgot about her. She felt bad about that sure but hey they saw each other all summer and all during breaks. She realized that she was about 10 minutes late and Mallory was probably about to use the mirror. She groaned and began to sprint to the room.
When Ann Marie got there she saw that the door was already there. She opened the door, slightly breathless. She saw that Mallory was sitting by the fire with her hands in her lap. She let out a breath of relif and walked over. She sat down in the arm chair next to her and said "Hey Mal, I'm so sorry I'm late, they wouldn't let me out of the dorm." she hoped her sister would understand that they would always be best friends no matter what happened. She may have other friends in her house but Mallory was always going to be her best friend.

When she heard the door open Mal jumped up. Turning to face the doorway, she was thrilled to see her sister, Ann, standing there. "Ann!" she said as the Gryffindor came over. Giving her a big hug, Mal sat down on the couch and Ann in a armchair. "Don't worry about it," Mal said when Ann apologized for being late, "I'm sure they wanted you for as long as they could keep you." Mal had always been amazed at how well Ann could make friends. Almost everyday it seemed she had a new one. Then again, Ann had always been the more out going of the two. Mallory on the other hand didn't have a bunch of friends. She said this was mainly due to 1) being shy and 2) though she was smart Mal didn't think she was as brilliant as other Ravenclaws. Before Hogwarts she joked a lot about not being smart enough for Ravenclaw, not brave enough for Gryffindor, and not sly enough for Slytherin. When she was sorted, however, that changed and she was completely surprised to be placed in Ravenclaw. Mal thought that Gryffindor was the perfect place for Ann.
"So, Ann, do you all have many more Gryffindors this year?" Mal was curious to find out if there had been an incline in Gryffindors numbers, because she had been sick during sorting this year. She had seen a lot of new faces in the Ravenclaw common room earlier that night. After a moment Mal added teasingly to her previous statement, "Anyone new for you to torture with your pranks?"
